That story makes me proud as a hockey dad. The parents of those players should be very, very proud of their sons.

A class act by a group of very classy young men.

Nice win for the Hawks tonight, Khabby comes back and the Hawks score two in the 3rd for a come from behind win.

Cool story out of Washington too!

Quote:

Johnson not shaken by rotating backups as Capitals rout Senators

WASHINGTON -- The tall guy holding the camera in the Washington Capitals' locker room works for the team's Web site.

Two and a half hours earlier, the same guy was sitting on the Capitals' bench serving as an emergency backup goalie.

Keeping the camera focused, Brett Leonhardt shook his head in disbelief as he watched Brent Johnson answer questions about -- who else? -- Brett Leonhardt. Johnson might have been the top performer in Friday night's 5-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators, but the true star was the 6-foot-7 former college hockey goalie who had to suit up during the first 10 minutes of the game because of an injury.

"Every dream come true," Leonhardt said. "Growing up in Canada, playing since I was 4. It was just very surreal. It was a blur, went by real quick."

Leonhardt's moment in the spotlight overshadowed the return of Sergei Fedorov and Mike Green to the lineup in a dominating performance by the Capitals. Alexander Semin, Brooks Laich and Green all scored for the first time this month, Alex Ovechkin got his 16th and 17th goals, and Johnson made 32 saves to win his fourth straight decision.

But no injury scenario was stranger than the series of events that led to the lanky Leonhardt dressing for the game. A Division III goalie in college and a Capitals employee for about a year, the 26-year-old Leonhardt signed an amateur tryout contract after backup Jose Theodore injured a hip flexor during the morning skate.

If Leonhardt had actually played, he would have tied Ben Bishop of the St. Louis Blues as the tallest goalie ever to see action in an NHL game. Instead, he simply became an instant celebrity.

"We had a little chat about what happens during warmup, and he was like, 'What? What am I going to do?" Johnson said. "It was pretty funny."

Leonhardt's brief career -- for which he will receive no money -- ended when Simeon Varlamov, recalled from AHL affiliate Hershey, arrived midway through the first period

Tonight my woeful Isles play the hated crosstown rivals in a subway series. Looks like an easy win for the rags. I'll be recording it on NASN tonight and will watch it tomorrow after work. Here's to wishful thinking and being a true fan.

Fortunately my other team (San Jose) is doing okay, especially at home. Wow what a record on home ice.

San Jose is having an incredible season, I am thinking Detroit - San Jose in the Western Conference Finals....though I'd love to see the Hawks there. :)

Toronto is 41st out of 30, Paul. :r

LMFAO!! :r :r

If you saw a couple of the hotties Craig had at our games this summer when he played on our team (Nope, he didn't play goalie), you would probably reckon that NHL players seem to be able to score at will, regardless of their gooft looks! :D

I just finished watcing the Isles/Ragskirts game and must same although the Isles lost it was a great game. No real complaints. A hard hitting first period followed by a terrible 18:30 of the second period than two shifts and POW GOAL!!! My only problem is would someone please tell the Islanders that there are THREE freakin' periods in hockey!!!!! McD is doing pretty good as a backup on an extended cycle but I think he comes out to much and flops around a bit to much as well. The Isles showed a lot of heart and soul out there and I am thankful Trent is alright. One shining hope in this season is we have a good chance at getting Tavares

Oh! and I didn't here the Infamous "Potvin Sucks" so I guess that has stopped since we had to stop chanting NINETEEN FOOOORTEEEEEEE. I didn;t mind the Bosox ending thier curse but I do wish this one was still alive.

Ramnling again, give 'em the hook.

They're not worried about the weather on New Years Day, they are worried about the weather right now, and the past few days being too warm to get the correct amount of ice down in time for New Years Day.

Absolutely Bush-League the way Crosby jumped him. There is a code in the NHL, and Crosby ignored it. If he had let McLean square up, Brett would have beat him like a rented mule.

Looks like McLean got cut when Sidney pile-drove Brett's head into the ice. I look forward to the next time Florida plays the Pens, hopefully someone will give it right back.

Have you seen the starters for the All-Star Game? The Canadian's fans gotta be suffering from finger-clicking-strain. Komisarek? Kovalev???
And the west isn't much better, but I can see giving Tom's Blackhawk brothers a pass since it's been a while. ;)
Thinking maybe they better find a different way of voting from now on, because even some of the reserve picks weren't much better.

The crazy thing is that Sharp and Keith are much more deserving than Toews and Campbell, Gary. ;)

The All-Star game is a joke....just a chance for fans to come out and watch their faves.

It is about as close to a real NHL hockey game as Minature Golf is to a PGA tournament. :2 :r

Sort of like when Dave Manson made the All-Star teams 3 times in the 90s...someone forgot to tell him it was an "exhibition" game. :bx :r

I think Ducan Keith has become perhaps the best "defensive defenseman" in the NHL....amazing kid, and he just keeps getting better, Gary.

Took the whole family to the Hitmen game last night, our CHL franchise. They are #1 in Canada right now, even Piper (my 3 year old daughter) loved it. Boys one 6-3 makes them 25 and 1 at home.

Flames beat San Jose in the Shark Tank handing them there first home loss since last February.

My teams are doing awesome..........long way from the last game yet but a great season to be in Calgary.

What a game tonight between the best 2 teams in the West, Detroit and San Jose. Two amazingly skilled teams, just poetry in motion watch. Though I love the Hawks, what am amazing playoff series it would be if these two teams met in the Western Conference Finals. If San Jose gets good goaltending, it is hard to imagine any team overcoming their team speed in a 7 game series.

Tough loss for the Bruins yesterday. Hurts when both teams are playing well and the game is decided when a good player makes a couple of stupid rookie mistakes. On another note, since I got HDTV, I find that I am enjoying watching hockey much more. Is it just me or is this a common experience?

It's a common experience and tough to watch sports on TV that isn't HD.

Didn't get a chance to see the sharks game, but will hopefully get to see a replay of it.

Watching sports in non HD sucks. The sharks often get shafted by the Warriors, and I'm stuck watching it on non hd. Its worse when it is non hd on a hd tv, than a non hd tv.

I guess I'll eat a little crow since Kovalev stepped up and snagged the MVP honors. 2 breakaway goals and an assist, plus a shootout goal. Nice moment for him playing in front of his home crowd. Kane and Toews each bagging a goal too...But Malkin's between the legs goal was sweet!

Good performance, but still a joke on the two teams.

Hopefully the next half of the year will be exciting. Wondering what is going to happen in the West. The Stars have slowly worked their way towards a playoff spot, and the Canucks have their goalie back, sure be an exciting couple months.
