OH, Bessie, the bulldog fans have that look on their faces again, and THIS time, I really
feel for them. I am not TN fan, but I have to admit it is nice t see them not limping towards oblivion
again this week. The band girl they just showed that was past crying, more like her best friend
was just removed from a car with the jaws of life...kind of a sad shock.
CMON DAWGS, lets make the 4th quarter count.

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2009

Some interesting facts on this one, mostly DUH stuff, but LSU and FLA have won the
national championship twice this decade and the winner of THIS game each year has
gone on to win it all. YUM.

Not so well known...the last time Tiger stadium saw a battle of top 5 teams?
None other than LSU-Ole Miss on halloween night 1958. And anyone outside
of LSU fans that knows the name Billy Cannon will probably roll their eyes at
that one, the famous galloping ghost punt return for a touchdown. "Billy Cannon's Run"
is all it's called in LA. But it has stood the test of time, showing up every year on TV
stations throughout the state on Halloween, and popping up on quite a few big game
broadcasts in Death valley. Don't be surprised if CBS doesn't show it tonight.

Boys and girls, it ain't never gonna get any bigger than THIS ONE.

btw, If you want to see Billy Cannon's run, here it is:

That Gary Danielson has some good eyes, and I guess it only happened if they call it. Tebow's roomate grabs the LSU defender's jersey and gets him all out of whack and catches the easy TD pass. Still, that's football, and the karmic wheel DOES turn. And it's nice to see LSU is not the pushover America thinks they are at #4. 10-7, not too bad. BUT, Cooper WILL pay for his ***** move , by Grabthar's hammer, we will be revenged!

If we tackle, we have a chance. Right now we are not tackling.

macpappy 10-10-2009 07:37 PM

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2009

Good first half but Florida got lucky on that touchdown. Cooper should have been flagged for offensive pass interference when he pulled the back of the cornerback's jersey. But, if the ref doesn't see it, it didn't happen...

What did Les Miles say to Jefferson at the half, "don't try to RUN?"
I thought running QBs didn't GET deer in the headlights feet.

Jefferson could have avoided the first sack in the second half if he would have taken off.
LSU is still in the game, but I don't know how.

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2009

Funny, gary Danielsen says "the fans don't like this looking at the sideline
and calling the play" and MAN, neither do I! It is so high school, and I think it demeans and distracts every team that does it. it is the worst thing to
come along in football since Deion Sanders.

macpappy 10-10-2009 08:47 PM

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2009

So far the LSU has no offense in this game. Other than a few nice runs by Scott, Florida's defense is just outplaying LSU.

macpappy 10-10-2009 08:50 PM

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2009

I hate to say it but LSU is not going to win this game. Jefferson's inexperience is really showing how costly it is in big games.

On the other hand, the LSU defense is showing some good signs of life. That was a nice interception by Eugene.

OLS 10-10-2009 09:01 PM

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2009

Florida fans are lucky that their team kicked that second field goal, because
if the margin of victory was that BS cheat touchdown, I would be pretty
embarassed about my win. Now at least they are three points better than LSU.
That is if LSU pulls their head out of their A and scores on this drive. AAAaaannd,
they Don't. Well, I guess Tebow won't throw again in the last 2 mins...darn.
ARGH, stop showing our depressed fans, we look like UGA fans, lol.

Haha, look at Urban and Tebow. "if you didn't have that facemask, I could kiss you easier."
I think he is still hurt...he didin't mention God til the end.

Looks like a fiver for FLPower. Send me your details.

Congratulations Florida. LSU may have lost but I think they did good on defense to make it a close game until the last two minutes. Hopefully we'll see you again in the SEC Championship game.

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2009

Definitely, Macpappy, congrats Florida.
Two things that shocked me, especially with 2/3 of a QB, barely a whisper
of Dickson, I mean don't tight ends usually bail out QBs in trouble?
Secondly, I though for SURE Randle would be catching passes. They could have
taken out 80 after the first half. Talk about the dropsies.
I will take Jefferson's performance tonight over the kid we played last year..yikes.

Good luck FLA.

As for the game, Tebow was the story but Brandon Spikes (our All-Star linebacker) brought home the W more than any other player. 11 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks. Defensively we made Jefferson beat us and Offensively we were gonna run and play conservative until we had to do otherwise.

Awesome game and an amazing time in the Big Easy and Baton Rogue

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2009

I think the problem with seeing it live is that you don't have the advantage of Gary Danielsen,
who spotted the jersey tug while he was saying that the LSU DB had played the TD catch poorly,
and as he was saying it, he saw the foul. It has been more than a decade since I was in Tiger
Stadium, but I don't think there is a very big replay screen, so maybe fans didn't catch it either.
I was kind of disappointed that that kind of technique was even used, and more disappointed that
it went unnoticed by the official. It was subtle, but very effective, and just made the LSU DB look
like a bum. LSU's defense was certainly good enough to stop all the other big catch opportunities
by FLA, and good enough to stop all their other drives cold. And everyone knows LSU's DBs are
more than fast enough to keep up with FLA's receivers. Maybe Tebow's roomate thought that was
the only way they were ever going to score a TD. That and a couple of field goals.
Impressive win. FLA's lowest point total in years, probably. I feel like crap about the outcome,
but I have made my comments on fair play twice, so I might as well admit FLA won the game.

Bama is favored by 17, I feel very confident in winning the game but I'm not sure we can cover due to SC's defense. Not sure if its true but I heard the other day that Saban has never beat Spurrier. If thats true then you know he is going to be very motivated going into this one.

How have SC's special teams looked this year? I think that is the key to beating us/keeping it close as we have gave up way too many big kick/punt returns.

That Florida/LSU game was a battle of defense. Offense on both sides were more than sub par, they were almost unbearable to watch. You can say that tug was a difference maker all day, but know one will EVER know the true outcome. That's one thing that annoys me when people say "Oh they wouldn't have own with out that play". You take that play away, then something else will happen, but we just don't know what will happen exactly. That being said, I still think it will be Alabama and Florida in the SEC championship game.

I don't think I said that Florida wouldn't have won without that play. I think it was just a bad call on the part of the officials. That being said, bad calls or non-calls happen in every game.

I can't see anyone in the SEC East except Florida being in the championship game. I think the East is still wide open. Don't annoint Alabama the SEC West champs yet...

I was trying to direct what I said to any ONE person, merely a statement of dislike to those who are all about arguing that changing one play can change the outcome of the entire game. Case in point, Twins vs. Yankees, game two where the ump called a hit to left line foul instead of fair. Maybe a new pitcher will be introduced, maybe a different set of calls. You know what I mean?

You are correct. Seldom is it one play that makes the difference. Just don't tell that to any Seahawks fans that were robbed in the Superbowl a couple of years ago. The replay showed it wasn't a touchdown, but the officials let it stand.

Despite that call, I believe LSU would have lost anyway because they couldn't get the offense moving.

I will own up to it...I think that FLA does not win without that cheat.
I think you are correct, one play being reversed cannot possibly infer that everything else carries on the same,
in fact, it's more likely that everything changes. But I do say that if FLA does not get that pass on third down,
they punt and the fact that LSU holds for a third drive makes LSU get riled up and fired up and they score two
TDs. Lol. What can I say, I am a homer for the Tigers.

But I think that was LSU's only ticket to the SEC Champ. in Atlanta. Florida is tough, but highly beatable.
Alabama is much more complete. If we have 25% better QB action, we rip FLA a new one and expose them
for what they are, a GREAT defense and a good offense. Alabama is almost perfect on both sides of the ball.
That said, I am still going to homer up on the Tigers and say that we beat Alabama. Look how far it got me
with Fla!

Great scenario. Brad. I imagine that Florida gets angered by the penalty call, gets so fired up they end up beating them 72-3. But it's all conjecture now. :)

That tug got highlighted...but that stuff is going on all game, every game....just stands out when it happens on a play that ends up with the football in the end zone.

Well it's easy to speculate about plays, but like icehog said that stuff happens every game. We won that game on defense and played with obvious limited offense so if y'all are going to pull it off against Bama you'd best put something special together.

Same thing for S. Carolina, I'm sure Spurrier's working hard after Kentucky's game last week. They'll need a lot, esp. playing at Alabama.

Yes, that stuff may happen every game, and there is no DOUBT that Florida WON THE GAME.

Lowest points scored in the Urban Meyer era. Gives me DEEP satisfaction.
NO touchdowns scored except for a cheat play. Makes me feel MUCH better.
Gators noted twice on National TV for cheating, hehe, that is just perfect.

Best play of the game for me, personally. When the nose tackle busted the Florida center's chops and set him
on his A$$ for moving his head repeatedly. Call that LSU Def. Coord. a chump for being an ex-Tennessee reject, but
I like his advice on that particular situation. I laughed for 45 seconds on that one.

There is no reconciling this really. Everybody hates Florida but Florida fans.
It's because of the smell of their wins, and the sting of the losses they hang on people. You can't get over it.
But I am proud of my Tigers for showing the way for Arkansas to whip their ever-lovin A$$ this weekend.
You won't be treating Ryan Mallett the way you treated Jordan Jefferson, I can promise you that. I am not
sure how much defense the Hogs are going to bring, but they can go TD for TD with Florida.
All the rest of us can hope for is that the Gators go down.

I do not feel animosity towards any FLA fans, though. You have a winning team to cheer for, and it's not like
you don't feel for your Gators the same way I feel for my Tigers. It's just that most people feel sorry for you
for the choice you have, lol.

Yes but that's what pass interference is all about. When unfair play affects a pass near the person
who is being fouled, IT AFFECTS the OUTCOME of that play. Don't get me wrong, I turned the TV off
and went to bed Saturday night without muttering at all. It was a football game, and it doesn't affect
my job, my love life, my money.
It was just a game. It was not called, and maybe it was not even SEEN.

I make the point the way I did because like it or not, it affected the game.
If he tugged on the DB all night but no passes were thrown in that direction,
no big deal. You can still CALL Pass Interference away from the ball, but
you rarely see that. If FLA racks up 5 touchdowns in the air and that was
only one of them, if it isn't called, what does it really matter.

The game is what the game was. But your logic is skewed. And I consider you fairly
neutral given your yankie-ness. I just reserve the right to bi+ch cause it was the
only TD pass in the game. IT STANDS OUT. But that is the last time I will talk about it.
