Re: Rolling your own

So I finally got around to trying the Maduro Roxy that Andrew generously sent for me to sample.....now I am not a reviewer, so I will do my best.
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d6...s/DSCF9100.jpg

First off the construction of the stick is very well put together, there were some noticeable veins, but not overpowering. When I pinched it, it snapped back and felt good in my hand quite a good looking stick.

I could not help but smell her I smelled barnyard aromas, and I noticed that I have not smelled a cigar that smelled this good....sure I have had some great smelling cigars, but there was just something about this....it was almost intoxicating and this is a good thing.

Onto the burns, it burned slowly...not a lot of smoke, and I think I only had to relight one time during the whole 1 hour and 30 or so mins of smoking.

While smoking I noticed peanuts, chocolate, maybe some coffee (only hints though) It was not an overpowering smoke and the closet comparison would be the Drew Estate Undercrown....if you haven't had that then I can't help you.

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d6...s/DSCF9101.jpg

I had this paired with some Bacardi Gold Rum they went great together, I also had some grapes (purple seedless) in the process (I was at a party) and they did not take away from the enjoyment of the stick.

I would def buy a box of these and would love to try them after they have rested for a year.

Thank you again Andrew for letting me try it, I really appreciate it you really have something here and I look forward to trying your other wrappers as well. Keep it up brother.

Rats- I'm looking for a 49, first and foremost. Thank you, again, though.

I presume the listed sizes describe a finished (wrapped) cigar made with the mold and not the diameter of only the "bindered" bunch that comes out of the mold. Do you know if that's true?

Have you thought about/considered doing a "nub" type of smoke (4in x 60)?

or a shorty like a 4in x 30?

just thoughts that you're looking for...hopefully! :)

I just purchased some Maduro wrappers, so i will have a Dominican filled with a maduro wrapper shortly.

I have taken into consideration the sale of Roxy cigars, as it is difficult to sell them not having the proper licenses, I figure i will sell the Cigar bands only, and the "tobacco is not for consumption"

Fivers will be 25 shipped in the small flat rate box. How does that sound?

If I'm not using them I keep them dry. I remoisten them 2 days before use.
I keep the filler on the dryer side to begin with.
If your not going to use it immediately, let it dry out.

I also buy what I plan on using, I keep a low inventory.

Hope that helped.

So i finally got my last shipment of Maduro Wrappers.... Good thing is Leaf Only was nice enough to charge me a couple extra $$ to have the leaves pre-opened, which means less processing time for me, and less tears in the leaf due to me being in a hurry.

Here is a pic, and for all of you that like the smell of the Roxy's, it smells 10 times better to burry your nose in this pile.

Pic is big, gives more detail

Question on the use of pectin. Are you using some pectin when wrapping the binder? If so, where?

How much and where do you use pectin on the wrapper?

This looks like fun. I think I'm going to give it a try.

I use no pectin on the binder, and the only place I use it on the wrapper is towards the head when finishing.

If you have a wrapper that is unraveling you can use pectin to fix it. You can also use it on small cracks.
