I opened the Clark & Sheffield BS last night, James. There is absolutely nothing "1792" about it. Rye spice and pepper at first, after it opened up a bit there was a hint of dark fruit sweetness, but not enough to damper the spice. I'll pay the extra $15 MSRP all day for 1792 FP over this one.

On a positive note, I found out the JD Heritage single barrel is from Coy Hill, which is a good thing. :)

Picked this up. Some shop didn't want their allocation, so a local shop got them instead

Yes, and I'm not inclined to jump through whatever hoops that might entail. Guess I'll wait for the movie to come out. :D

Dropped by Binny's for Wednesday drops and my guy ask's "Are you happy or really happy?" I said happy. Apparently, I missed an email that told me to come in for my Christmas bottle. Last year I was able to buy Pappy 15 Year for MSRP, I figured no way they can best that this year. I was wrong. And really really happy.

They're going to have to find an old Booker's Rye next year to top this one. ;) :r

Picked up the latest Booker's, 25-04 Phantom Pipes batch. Meh, it's ok. I've come to the realization that Booker's is unlikely to best anything pre-2020 going forward. :(

I was chasing Bookers in my short time in the game, but stopped after last year.
They’re just ok. Definitely not worth the price when you can get a WT Rare Breed for $30-40 less.

Surprised to get the call from my local store that I could buy from the back shelf. Unfortunately they still charge above msrp, so I skipped the big hitters off shelf A. Got two off shelf B.

Nice pickups, Bob, I hope that EHT single barrel is a banger.

What were some of the gems on A shelf?

Stagg Jr, Blantons Gold, JD 12/14, Old Fitz 9/11, were some I can remember. There was a lot of others, out of my price range.

Can’t remember. :fp

I’m assuming all the really high end stuff went to the customers with deep pockets.

Glad that you at least got something nice, Bob.

Tried Westland Single Malt at a restaurant last night. Interesting, very grain forward. Probably one and done though.

Yea, I went with things I’m likely not to get again, within my price range. Still chaffs me they charge above msrp, so this might be the last year I’ll participate.

I did try the EHT. :tu

Glad the EHT is good, Bob.

Yeah, raffles for the "right to buy at secondary" is a pass for me.

Steph gifted me a bottle of Penelope Project X PX Sherry. This one's a store pick from one of my favorite B&Ms. I'm leery of finished bourbons by and large. In my admittedly limited experience of around 10-12 varied bottles they're either very good, meh, or almost undrinkable. This one is very good. I would not hesitate to buy myself a bottle. :D

Merry Christmas a day late, and I hope y'all had a great bourbon and cigar to celebrate!

The annual Spec's mega bourbon drop for 2025 at one of my local stores was announced for the 29th. People are already lining up. I think I am going to pass for this year. I have no more room for any more mass purchases, and honestly, there isn't much that they are offering that I want to buy.

I'm glad it's a good one, James. I'm not much for finished whiskeys either, but one of the couple that I've really liked in the last year was Havana by Penelope. I've heard the Rio and a couple others are very good too.

My cousin gave me a bottle of Blue Run High Rye 1985 Bears edition. I think it's just their regular release with some special packaging, but it's good so that's ok.

Yesterday I had some Jay West single barrel Knob Creek at 126.5 proof. Another stellar pick, he bats better than .900 :tu

Met up with a friend this morning for breakfast, near a liquor store he had some bottles to pick up. Of course I stopped in. Well, that was costly. The JD Rye store pick is amazing. So off profile from the regular bottle.

Jay, this store by me I believe was one of the first in MI to get the Project X bottles. I’ll grab a pour of it soon and give my review. This store is really a hidden gem. Sells most everything at state minimum, or maybe a small markup. And he has good stuff just sitting on the shelves.

Been away on a cruise for a couple of weeks. The had a decent selection of bourbons, but nothing fantastic. I drank Buffalo Trace most of the time.

Hope the cruise was a blast, James.

FB acquaintance let me know he had 3 of my all-time favorite Elijah Craig barrel pick for sale. No brainer for me, this one is outrageous.
