Its the land of the free that's why, well not in some places. Would be good for home defense. It would help when you don't have earplugs in the middle of the night and an intruder shows up.

It makes a difference.

People with sensitive ears or already damaged hearing. Shooting can be loud.

They generally call them suppressors now since they lessen the noise but do not make it silent. In fact, here is a video showing that it is quite a bit quieter, but that you can still hear a suppressed firearm easily from 350 yards.
