Forget it. Been there, tried it. The tubes are not as strong as they look. You will end up denting the tubes in. You can use a dowel to limit that damage, but then you can't drill thru both sides...

It's an interesting concept for sure. But you are humidifying the interior wood areas right now, and that surface area will not chance with the amount of air space involved. If it's a big issue...

In my variation of this, I do use the yokes also, just separate them and fold in the stiffened whites. Also do this with waffles for much lighter texture.
