You can use that to make it a bit better.  You're really just making sure there's nothing in there that would prevent the primer from seating fully - i.e. fairly significant buildup.
 For what it's worth, I clean the pockets for my rifle brass, but not pistol.

 Thanks for the info! The brass has only been shot once and I cleaned them with the primers still in to prevent media in the primer pockets. They all look decently clean in there.
