My airplane question got me thinking about smoking a cigar in an unpressurized cabin... So, what is the highest altitude (not in a plane) have you smoked a cigar at? Anyone ever smoke a cigar on K2 or something crazy like that?

The top of Mt Ranier in Washington. 14,410 feet. Windy, but we had brought a windbreak with us. This was in 1987.

Ah crap.
I had a cigar(ette) on Cotopaxi back in the late 90's - it was the only way I could tell if I was still %^$#ing breathing at that altitude. Add to that the "pucker factor" of actually BEING an active volcano, the question of "Why the &^%$ are we going to the top of it??" does tend to repeat itself and make you VERY nervous....

I live at 367 feet above sea level. Lets just say I haven't gone anywhere interesting since I started smoking.

I remember smoking at the top of Mt. Massive, Mt. Evans and Pikes Peak, and possibly on 1 or 2 other 14ers. I smoked often camping, fishing and hunting at treeline ~12k. I enjoy smoking in camp, but not so much in the middle of a strenuous hike.

Looks like I am at the bottom of the list.
Normally smoke at about 4 feet above sea level but went on a company trip to Cusco, Peru and smoked several cigars at 11,200 feet. |
