IIRC smoking is no longer permitted in the casinos. There was a big stink about it a year or two ago. I smoked outside on the boardwalk when I was there last year. Ocean City is so close to AC that you won't need a hotel. The Borgata is the most popular casino, but it's not on the boardwalk. The beach in AC is among the best. Go to Wildwood for a day, too.
