Full grown they will be around 200 lbs each. They were 13 and 14 lbs when we got them, and in just 2 weeks they are already 20 lbs each.

They're great family dogs. Good with kids and stuff, really the epitome of 'Gentle Giant'. My wife and I got one when we first got together 11 years ago. She lived til 9 years old. Only drawback of the larger breeds is the shorter life span.

They're excellent at guarding property too. A great saying I heard years ago was: "Shepards will bite your arm. Mastiffs will walk away with the arm."

Story Time: We have a dog door on our back door, but it's a bit small. A border collie would brush it's back on the top of the dog door walking straight through. Our mastiff never had any trouble going through it though so we just left it that size. About 4 years ago when we still had our old Mastiff a UPS guy came up to the door with a package. He walked in the gate (4' Chain Fence) with the 'Beware of Dog' sign on it, and right up to the door to knock. Our dog barked, and went charging toward the door and out of it. My wife saw the UPS guy take off running and he jumped the fence like it wasn't even there. My wife went out to talk to the guy and asked why he walked in the back gate past the sign and he said he saw the dog door but figured because of the size we probably had a little terrier or something. Oops. He couldn't believe he actually cleared the fence.

This is my Corgi/Rat Terrier mix, named Sophie. This is the day we brought her home last year.

We call her Thin Stripe. Or, more often, "The Evil One". She's a troublemaker.



And she's, of course, Thick Stripe. She's the sweet one. And almost gets along with Sophie. Almost.

Love the Golden's guys, that is my favorite breed.

I hope someday soon we'll be able to have one but we don't have the space or the time that an animal like that deserves, it would be selfish and unfair to the dog.
