Sam is a great guy, no doubt...nothing but class when I photographed him last year, extremely personable, and can roll the hell out of a cigar....
The Press release, while a bit over the top, is all marketing, and nothing else... The cigars will speak for themselves...if the blend is great, we will soon find out ![]() Sam, when do you expect these to be out, roughly? ~brooks |

I'll be honest, I never pay attention to advertising something comes out I try it, The cigar, filler, wrapper, binder speaks for itself. So all fine and dandy like a woman told me once , size don't matter its how it works. So I'm interested in seeing how this tastes and smokes and can't wait to try one, who knows it may be a go to stick. People always don't like the way I look, talk or smell but they still call me.

I will be honest though wth is Sam Leccia and what cigars has he produced before, I'll go on a whim here and say since it says debut its his first line, but like I said before my dream is coming out with my own line and sticks and I would enjoy it if my friends/ forum buddies gave me support , not bust my balls hehe. Especially if its my first line. My first line may be a private line so I don't get hung . But I to may look for a signature size. the 6 1/2 x 52 he has as smaller stick is a little longer that what some people call robusto or super robusto.
This ends my part of the freedom of opinion I mean speech, that everyone else gets to share as well. Ok that being said I googled him and saw he was with Oliva on the Cain and Nub project, that being said the baccy may be different because he's on his own and had to go that route but I am even now more curious to try because I have enjoyed blends I have had his hands were on. A quote:NUb cigars were created by Leccia and Oliva Cigar and launched in 2008, end quote so that being said we all klnow how working for a company goes, now we all know some creators that have done well on their own without the corporate fine tooth and could create with their own finesse., but we have known some fall.

At $5.50 a stick, the Nub Cameroon was a solid cigar. Not as big a fan of the others, but I can see where others would enjoy them more. The Cains on the other hand

Hell, I'll try them, the blend sounds more interesting than some others out there, and I'm curious to see what Sam came up with given the freedom to make all the decisions and not have to answer to Oliva.
Worst that happens is that I'm out a few bucks for some cigars I didn't enjoy. |

it. If you had to list the most widely-acclaimed tobacco men in the world, ones who have seen and done everything at least twice, the Oliva family is in the top three. I read Sam's online "resume'", and he has not even been in tobacco for more than a hiccup of time. Read the part below the Nub time in his life, pre-2005. (it's all fairly interesting, really) http://www.linkedin.com/pub/sam-leccia/27/7a7/33a There is something to be said for a lifetime tobacco family going back 3-4 generations not being able to see the nub forest for the trees and missing out on something a liquor distributor keys in on by some kind of doofus accident "Why don't we make the whole cigar be the "good" part", lol, but I thought Adam's statement was funny after I read his online bio. If you want to get an indication of the Oliva legacy, read the story of the early US life of Orlando Padron. It's very illuminating. |

I'm not a large RG guy myself either, but I can promise you that this is not something new or just with this cigar line!
Went to a online cigar store just now and only looking up the companys starting with A there where 16 different cigars with a 60 RG! And I didn't count all the 58 RG cigars I saw. |

Aw, I was just messin with you Frank, cause you were defending Kid Rock too much, lol.
Truth is I have not been inside a Brick and Mortar cigar store in 5 years and have not BOUGHT out of one in MUCH, MUCH longer. But I have heard the news in forums, I DO know how "popular" the big RG smokes are. I just don't get it, unless it is purely a factor of the SIZE being an indication of how cool they are. That must be why I tend towards the PCs and panatelas. And if I heard someone bashing the Padron's, I would defend them the way you do Leccia. I just like em. |

BTW, I wish there was a smaller RG in the lineup as well, but there is NO doubt that the bigger sticks sell well (quite a bit better then smaller RG, by all accounts)...I am betting he is introducing these sizes first, then will continue to introduce smaller sizes (Corona PLEASE Sam!) as the line gets to be better known...

I am sure I can't edit my post, so just to be clear again, I have no argument against
Mr. Leccia. I like the way he goes out and rolls his own cigars and you can tell that with him, he seems to take the love of the business manifested in say, Jon Drew, but to a much more personal level. I am sure that Drew can roll a cigar, but to take your act on the road and roll up your cigart, and do it for 3 straight years with very little break, I DO admire his intensity and apparent love of the business. Maybe a cat like that DOES need to break loose. I am sure he learned a $hi+load from the Olivas. I KNOW J. Drew has been on long tours, but to ME, these were cocktail parties for him. I was surprised to see that Leccia mostly sat down and rolled while he did HIS talking. These two major upstarts DO seem to represent a new era of cigars and cigar marketing. |

I think it's cool he responded to the buzz. Good or bad. I hear nothing but good things about the guy being "down to earth"....... but luxury cars, private jets and designer clothes? Come back down, Sam. You've already got a huge following. I'd hate to see you lose some fans.
I heard the photo shoot was all impromptu and last minute, but it still came off as a little self-indulgent to me. I, for one, will be trying The Debut when it's released. I'm not gonna pre-order any, though. I'll wait till they're in the B&Ms or on one of the catalog sites. I like the figurado size. Sounds good. |

OLS with your statement above I think you have to compare apples to apples. Jonathan Drew has been in the industry a long time, much longer than Sam and has created a whole different segment of the industry with the Acid line. Not a fan of Acid myself but they do sell very well and the Liga line is phenomenal and they are doing interesting things with the blends in that line too. But with your statement if you read some of the stories of Jonathan Drews career he definitely put in his time and hard work. He is well established now and gets to enjoy the fruits of his labor rather than be out on a whirlwind tour every second of his life unlike Sam who is still in the infancy of his Cigar career. Sorry I just had to chime in with that statement as I think Jonathon is as genuine in the industry as it gets and has already put in his blood, sweat and tears and is now getting to enjoy his hard work a little more so the comparison wasn't fair in my opinion. But you know what they say about opinions right? ![]() ![]()
