I hope so. All I know is I felt grossly over dressed.
Although the manager walked up, shook my hand and said "Damn, looking sharp!" The two guys before me were dressed for success as well, just not success outside of slinging crack on the corner. Candidate #1 wore a flannel shirt that was a little short with some torn up jeans. Candidate #2 wore a black tee and some blue jeans that were rolled under like some kinda Mexican gang banger.

And they were the ones who were in and out in 5 minutes.
You may have felt over-dressed but it demonstrated to them that you were serious about the opportunity and cared enough to look your best. Posted via Mobile Device |

All the better since it sounds like you did good. Trust me the goatee hair nets are pure suckage.

Adjusting to the Life

After you get hired, you should grow the King Leonidas type beard from 300.
Whole Foods is like Publix, but organic. Seeing as they get a lot of applicants, and they also scout for potential growth, dressing professionally probably is in your favor. But also, seeing as you're former Armed Forces, they'd be jerks not to hire you. If I were hiring and I had to choose between two sloppy dudes and a someone well dressed who also was in the Air Force... uh yea.

Right, so would it be sloppy dude #1 with the flannel shirt or sloppy dude #2 with the gangbanger jeans?

Skip the tie. It's overkill, I've been 100% at job interviews 7/7. I ALWAYS wear slip on dress shoes, my nicest jeans and a button up shirt untucked. Comb your hair, shave and success. Overdressing will show that you're desperate and have no confidence. If you smoke, DON'T before hand. Once they hire you, they won't care but at the interview it's off putting.
Seems you overdressed, Ah well. Good luck anyways man! |

Well done, D!
Sounds like you made a favorable impression... 40 minutes after the other two guys sounds like you impressed them. ![]() Hope it goes well from here forward. I know they will be getting a hard worker. Want to use me for a reference?

Anything under $15 an hour and I'm not wearing a tie. At a certain point overdressing does show desperation and lack of confidence...say you apply at mcdonalds......yeah....walmart...yep. Certain jobs all you need to do is walk in dressed decently and be very confident. This has been my case every time. Of course I'm 24 and haven't applied for any job over $30,000 a year.

Death Is Waiting

I hate being late for threads! My only suggestion, that I didn't see mentioned would be to TRY NOT TO BE MEAN!
It would appear that it went well. If they had no interest in you then they wouldn't keep you in there so long. A long interview is not a guarantee but it's a great sign. Wish you the best Brother!

Still Watching My Back

Well brother just saw this. Sounds like it went well. As for the tie I say dress your best. I know I carry myself better dressed well. I also think anything you can do to set your self apart in a good way can't hurt. My last interview I wore a jacket and tie. After I got the job my new boss asked why I wore a tie to the interview. I said "you remembered I wore a tie therefore it did it's job".
Best of luck. |
