Here, on the Texas border, we say "Taht-WAH-heh"

Just like it's "hal-eh-PAY-nyo", not "PEE-nyo" for jalapeño. Drives me nuts....

"Pay" would actually be the correct pronunciation of the "e" vowel in Spanish. The Americanized "Pee-nyo" is incorrect, though more common in the US.
