for the torp (since they are round at the head) the angle makes sense...what about the "flat" head on the chisel..how do you angle the cut?

Just tilt the cutter. Just imagine cutting it with a knife. try and keep the angle of the tip, your just removing the cap to get the smoky goodness out.
I try to make a consious effort to have the cut end down in my mouth so the smoke hits my tongue VS the roof of my mouth.

...same here. Maybe it's just me, but I usually cut my torps with my cutter lined up left to right, but I have to cut the chisels with the cutter lined up up and down because of the bill on it.
